I just got my copy of this cd today and I've been looking forward to hearing what some of the stuff on Hellcat would sound like. In case you don't know about Hellcat, I'll give a brief history.
Hellcat was started by Tim Armstrong (guitarist for Rancid) and Mr. Brett (President/Owner of Epitaph Records). Hellcat is distributed by Epitaph, so I guess technically it's a subdivision of Epitaph Records. Hellcat is following Epitaph right along in getting some great bands; it's only fitting that Hellcat's first release would be a 20 band compilation showcasing some of the bands that will appear on upcoming Hellcat releases.

'Give 'Em The Boot' combines some of the best punk and ska bands around to put together one of the best comps I've heard. There are even some non-Epitaph/Hellcat bands on here: The Swingin' Utters (Fat Wreck Chords) and The Business (Taang!). Most of these bands are on Hellcat with a few exceptions: Rancid, The Voodoo Glow Skulls and Union-13 are on Epitaph.
This record is loaded with ska songs, so anyone into traditional ska will definitely enjoy this album. For those people who need their punk rock this cd has some great punk songs as well.

This cd is great because rancid fans can look forward to a brand new song called 'The Brothels.' Rancid fans can also hear a song by the Hellcat house band The Silencers which includes Tim on guitar/vocals and Lars on guitar/backing vocals doing a great song called 'Policeman.' Union-13 kicks out a really cool version of the rancid song 'Roots Radicals' in Spanish with Lars from rancid playing guitar.
A few of the other songs I really liked were 'Barroom Hero's' by Dropkick Murphy's and 'Infested' by Choking Victim. All the bands on this album are great, try and pick this up. 20 songs for 4$, you can't beat that. For more info on Hellcat records check out http://www.hell-cat.com.

note from jennie:i have this cd too, and this is a great review! but i'd like to add that the gadjits & u.s. bombs were also really cool on here! :)
