Floodgate
"Penalty"

About 6 months ago, Terri Craft of Juice Magazine turned me on to the name "Floodgate" as a band to be sure and check out. How right she was. 4 months later "Through My Days Into My Nights" was coming across the WMMS airwaves in Cleveland Ohio....track 2 off Penalty. The band's influences shines through their tracks (most comparable to C.O.C.), but they've still managed to develop their own sound. In a day where so many bands sound the same, it's refreshing to hear something different, not recycled. Floodgate has a heavy Southern style sound influenced by Corrosion of Conformity, Pantera, Crowbar, and even a faint hint of Goth like Type O Negative. I was fairly surprised to hear "Through My Days Into My Nights" come across the airwaves, because they don't really come across as a radio friendly band. Their material is heavy and seemingly uncompromised or restricted, which isn't really surprising considering they're on RoadRunner Records. Roadrunner gives us bands like Life of Agony, Fear Factory Sepultura, Biohazard, and Machine Head. Floodgate is definitely a band to check out!!! My personal 2 favorite lines off this disc comes from track 7, titled Second Guesser, "your loving's like a fax machine, Sends an image, but it isn't real," and track 11, titled Black With Sin, "Tattooed before I had a chance to begin defending my case."
